The month of October is a gigantic one for MNSKA. Just look at the show calendar below…it’s crazy! Let me highlight some of the shows that you, the MNSKA faithful, should be at. This Sunday, the infamous crusty ska-punk heroes Leftover Crack will be playing at the Triple Rock Social Club with MNSKA band Rocksteady Breakfast. A couple days later at the First Ave Mainroom is legendary Ziggy Marley. Arizona surf/ska/punk band Authority Zero is bringing it to the 7th Street Entry on Sunday October 16th. Looking ahead to that weekend, check out Thursday October 20th where the mighty Aggrolites are bringing their dirty reggae to the 7th Street Entry! The next night is an all-out MNSKA Double Release Party at the Nomad World Pub. On Friday, October 21st you can dance to the boss tunes from MNSKA’s The Dropsteppers, who are releasing Get Up In It! on Megalith Records, and The Prizefighters, who are releasing their special-edition vinyl of Follow My Sound on Jump Up Records. The show opens up with the epic return of long-running two-tone massive known as Umbrella Bed! But the month is not over yet, because the superhuman ska force known as 3 Minute Hero is playing a release show at the Fine Line Music Cafe on Friday, October 28th. The band is only releasing a limited number of their new music collection, so you should make it your bee’s wax to be at that one!

The Dropsteppers have planned a CD release show at The Nomad World Pub in Minneapolis on Friday, October 21st with The Prizefighters, who will be releasing their new vinyl, and the return of Umbrella Bed. Stay tuned for more details.

MNSKA veterans Umbrella Bed has been on hiatus for a better part of 2011. The last we saw of this energetic 2-Tone band was back in February, but it appears that the long-running band is coming back! According to a Facebook note from guitarist Kabel Lefto:
FIRST! We would like to welcome our new bassist Frankie! He’s stepped up to the plate and brought a whole new level of AWESOME to the band! Everyone show him your love and say hi! SECOND! We will be making our triumphant and long awaited return to the stage October 21 with our very good friends The Prizefighters and THE DROPSTEPPERS! That’ll be at the Nomad more info soon! THIRD! We’ve been hard at work on some new songs for your ears to enjoy! One may even sneak it’s way into the Nomad set… you never know, you’ll just have to come and find out! So now everyone is up to speed, any questions? Of course not, everything was explained so well! See you all October 21st!
It will be great to see these guys (and gals!) back in action! When I moved to the Twin Cities 10 years ago, the first ska show I attended was an Umbrella Bed. They have been a fixture in this scene for a long time and I can’t wait to see them take the stage once again.
MNSKA veterans Umbrella Bed opened for the legendary NYC ska band The Toasters when their 30th Anniversary Tour came to the Triple Rock Social Club on February 16th. The band heroically played a killer set after finding out hours before that Dave, their lead singer, was in a car accident and was in the hospital. The video is a medley of their songs “Workin’ For The CIA,” “Pick It Up,” and “Kamchatka.” We at MNSKA wish Dave a speedy recovery!
Legendary NYC ska band The Toasters are currently celebrating their 30th year of existence and are touring the land. TONIGHT they bring their talents to the stage at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis, MN alongside MNSKA bands The Dropsteppers and Umbrella Bed for an 18+ show. Doors are at 8pm, be there!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the longest running ska band in the US, NYC’s own The Toasters! To commemorate this benchmark, the band has embarked on their 30th Anniversary Tour, which stops in Minneapolis, MN on Wednesday, February 16th at the Triple Rock Social Club. Twin Cities artist Adam Turman is designing a special tour poster for The Toasters in honor of their 30 years as a band!

The Prizefighters are fresh off the release of their debut album Follow My Sound and will be bringing their own version of rough and tough reggae and soul to the crowds at Cause. The band will also be featuring a brand new lineup!
Umbrella Bed are MNSKA’s elder statesmen and will be bringing their big Two Tone sound featuring their “Horns Of Mass Destruction,” making them one of the most fun bands to see in the Twin Cities.
Secondhand Ska Kings are back! Pieced together from the ska bands of yore, the members of SHSK bring a fresh take on ska and funk. This band is dripping with talent and always brings the goods. Grab their new album Cocktails Before Funerals
MNSKA third wave band Secondhand Ska Kings played a very energetic set last Saturday at The Red Sea. Scattered throughout their set were some great Two Tone covers, like “Too Much Too Young” by The Specials which is featured in this video.
