The weather is warming up here in Minnesota meaning that Summer is right around the corner.  It also means that the Music In The Zoo summer concert series put on by our friends at Sue McLean & Associates and Subway is ready to kick off.  This concert series takes place at the Minnesota Zoo Ampitheater in Apple Valley, MN from June 6th to August 20th and features numerous national bands from various musical styles and genres (including a Hanson reunion!)

There are typically a ska band or two thrown in the mix, but this Summer there seems to be a bunch of different ska and reggae groups playing:

Friday, June 25th — The Wailers, The Aggrolites
Wednesday, June 30th — Buckwheat Zydeco, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
Thursday, July 22nd — Squeeze, The English Beat
Saturday, August 7th — Jimmy Cliff

TONIGHT AT FIRST-AVENUE! The Original Wailers including Al Anderson and Junior Marvin will be playing at the First Avenue Mainroom with special guests MNSKA band Minneapolis Dub Ensemble.  The doors for this show are at 8 pm and the show starts at 9:15 pm.  The show is 18+ and tickets are $18 at the door.  This is one of several touring incarnations of The Wailers, famous for playing with reggae legend Bob Marley in the 60′s and 70′s.

The Wailers

Legendary Reggae band The Wailers will be playing a show at First Avenue’s Main Room on Friday, January 16.  The band’s tour also includes stops in Milwaukee and the Old Man Winter Festival in Fargo.  Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door.  The show is 18+ and the music starts at 8 p.m.  L.A.-based Alternative/Crunk/Reggae band Tomorrows Bad Seeds opens.
