Jump Up Records Release The Prizefighters’ “Follow My Sound” CD

Exciting news for MNSKA fans!  JUMP UP RECORDS out of Chicago, IL have released the CD of the debut album Follow My Sound from MNSKA band The Prizefighters.  Label owner DJ Chuck Wren has announced that he will also be releasing a vinyl LP version of the album in the near future, but for now, you can head over to the newly designed JUMP UP website and buy the CD.

JUMP UP is an independent record label and mail order distribution company specialized in modern bands who play original Jamaican ska, reggae, rock steady, and calypso. With nearly 100 releases under their belt, they proudly stand by their motto “Jamaican Music Made The Old Fashioned Way”.

DThrog Ska Review praises The Prizefighters “Follow My Sound”

MNSKA band The Prizefighters played their first show with their brand new lineup last Wednesday at Cause Spirits & Soundbar in Uptown Minneapolis.  This is a video of their instrumental scorcher “Brujeria” from their latest album Follow My Sound.  Welcome to the band Rich (ex-Jon Wayne and The Pain, The New Rebelution) on bass, Courtney (Sajak) on sax, and Ryan (Sajak) on trombone!

MNSKA.com presents The Prizefighters, Umbrella Bed, and Secondhand Ska Kings at Cause Spirits and Soundbar (Lyndale and Lake, Mpls) on Wednesday, February 9th.  Doors are at 9pm for this 21+ show.  $5 cover.

The Prizefighters are fresh off the release of their debut album Follow My Sound and will be bringing their own version of rough and tough reggae and soul to the crowds at Cause. The band will also be featuring a brand new lineup!

Umbrella Bed are MNSKA’s elder statesmen and will be bringing their big Two Tone sound featuring their “Horns Of Mass Destruction,” making them one of the most fun bands to see in the Twin Cities.

Secondhand Ska Kings are back! Pieced together from the ska bands of yore, the members of SHSK bring a fresh take on ska and funk. This band is dripping with talent and always brings the goods. Grab their new album Cocktails Before Funerals

Friend of MNSKA and DJ of the weekly radio show Ska’s The Limit (KDHX 88.1 FM, St. Louis, MO) JJ Loy has added some music from MNSKA bands The Prizefighters and The Dropsteppers to his playlist.  Loy played “Follow My Sound” by The Prizefighters and “Bring It On Home To You” by The Dropsteppers on the program last Saturday night.  He even gave a shout out to the Flyover Ska Show podcast.

As we have noted in previous posts, this Saturday is The Prizefighters CD Release Show at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis.  In lieu of tomorrow night’s big show, the band has posted an exclusive in-studio video of them recording their song “Hypocrite” from their brand-new full-length Follow My Sound.

Doors open on Saturday for the 18+ show at 9 pm and it’s just $5 at the door.  Opening the show will be rockabilly band Reckless Ones and MNSKA band The Dropsteppers.  There will be $2.50 pints of Summit served all night long, leaving you with enough dough to pick up the new Prizefighters CD.  It’s a financial no-brainer!

Excellent!  Prior to the first big MNSKA house party, local reggae-rocksteady band The Prizefighters sat down to chat about their brand new debut full-length Follow My Sound.  The band also debates whether or not Less Than Jake is a gateway drug, how King Django’s ability to lose footwear is second only to his audio mastering skills, and their Subway-style pricing for their upcoming CD release show at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, December 4th.  The band was also kind enough to preview some the tracks from their new record, so quit stalling and start listening!

The Prizefighters unveil album art for Follow My Sound

MNSKA band The Prizefighters have finally unveiled the album art for their much-anticipated upcoming release Follow My Sound.  The band has been working on the songs that make up this album for the past 4-5 years and they couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out.  The album, which is the band’s official debut, is being mastered by King Django at Version City Studios as we speak.  Follow My Sound will officially be released on Saturday, December 4th at the CD Release Party at the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis; a show that will include special guests Reckless Ones and MNSKA band The Dropsteppers.

As previously reported, you will be able to preview the album in its entirety at the MNSKA House Party on Saturday, November 20th at my place in Minneapolis.  Aaron from The Prizefighters will be spinning some reggae/rocksteady/ska vinyl too, so if you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss out!
