First Ave and Rude Radio (Radio K) presents the Summer of Ska Tour 2012 featuring Reel Big Fish, Big D and the Kids Table, Suburban Legends and The Maxies! The 18+ show is Wednesday, July 11th with doors opening at 6pm at the First Avenue Mainroom. Reel Big Fish, making their second stop here this year, will be releasing a brand new album called Candy Coated Fury later this month.
In other cool news, Rude Radio, the long-running weekly ska radio program on University of Minnesota station Radio K (100.7 FM, Mpls) is back on the air! New host DJ Brian is bringing all sorts of ska, reggae, and rocksteady music to your ears every Sunday from 12pm-2pm. Tune in this Sunday for a chance to win tickets to the show!

Boston ska-core vets Mighty Mighty Bosstones are returning to the First Avenue Mainroom after 10 long years away! The band announced their upcoming Summer Vacation Tour, which includes East Coast dates as well as 2 Midwest dates; Chicago and Minneapolis. The August 11th show at First Ave will be 18+ with doors opening at 6pm. The band released their album Magic Of Youth in 2011.
The month of October is a gigantic one for MNSKA. Just look at the show calendar below…it’s crazy! Let me highlight some of the shows that you, the MNSKA faithful, should be at. This Sunday, the infamous crusty ska-punk heroes Leftover Crack will be playing at the Triple Rock Social Club with MNSKA band Rocksteady Breakfast. A couple days later at the First Ave Mainroom is legendary Ziggy Marley. Arizona surf/ska/punk band Authority Zero is bringing it to the 7th Street Entry on Sunday October 16th. Looking ahead to that weekend, check out Thursday October 20th where the mighty Aggrolites are bringing their dirty reggae to the 7th Street Entry! The next night is an all-out MNSKA Double Release Party at the Nomad World Pub. On Friday, October 21st you can dance to the boss tunes from MNSKA’s The Dropsteppers, who are releasing Get Up In It! on Megalith Records, and The Prizefighters, who are releasing their special-edition vinyl of Follow My Sound on Jump Up Records. The show opens up with the epic return of long-running two-tone massive known as Umbrella Bed! But the month is not over yet, because the superhuman ska force known as 3 Minute Hero is playing a release show at the Fine Line Music Cafe on Friday, October 28th. The band is only releasing a limited number of their new music collection, so you should make it your bee’s wax to be at that one!

Fresh from New Orleans comes Honeyboy Carencro; an artist that is stirring together blues and soul while sprinkling in a bit of ska for his debut release The Widowmaker via Rolling Fork Records. The album will be released on March 29th through most digital retailers and CD’s will be available on tour and at select retailers. The album includes a few musical guests, including an appearance by Dave Hillyard of The Slackers on the track “Row Yo! Motor.” You can listen to a couple tracks from The WidowmakerHERE.
Honeyboy Carencro will on the upcoming Slightly Stoopid Spring Tour along with The Meat Puppets, which makes a stop at the First Avenue Mainroom on May 6th. Tickets for that show are available HERE
MNSKA reggae veterans Dred I Dread recently opened for the legendary Toots and the Maytals at the First Avenue Mainroom in Minneapolis, MN. Here’s a nice video clip of the guys closing out their set.
TONIGHT AT FIRST-AVENUE!The Original Wailers including Al Anderson and Junior Marvin will be playing at the First Avenue Mainroom with special guests MNSKA band Minneapolis Dub Ensemble. The doors for this show are at 8 pm and the show starts at 9:15 pm. The show is 18+ and tickets are $18 at the door. This is one of several touring incarnations of The Wailers, famous for playing with reggae legend Bob Marley in the 60′s and 70′s.
