The Flyover Ska Show: Episode 14 – Hardcore Crayons

Monday, July 5th, 2010

After getting caught in an early summer thunderstorm prior to their concert in Minneapolis, Dan and Dom from the MNSKA band Hardcore Crayons took shelter in Courtney’s living room long enough to talk about their upcoming album Crayogenics.  The fellas dry off and chat about venues come and gone, why they no longer sing about Taco Bell, and the suicide-pacts of their underage fans.  If you are in the Minneapolis area, be sure to check out their 21+ CD Release at Sauce (Lyndale and Lake) on Friday, July 30th or their ALL AGES CD Release at Eclipse Records (St. Paul) on Saturday, August 7th.

This show is brought to you in part by MNSKA.com, Minnesota’s Ska Community and the Fancy Pants Gangsters podcast network.  Become a fan of the show on Facebook, follow Courtney on Twitter, or email him at FOSS@fancypantsgangsters.com.

In The Studio: The Prizefighters

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

MNSKA band The Prizefighters recently posted online that they are heading into the studio to record a grip of songs for a much anticipated release.  The reggae-soul band have booked time over at local recording studio Shock and Audio for this weekend.  Frontman (and MNSKA cofounder) Aaron Porter posted the following on the FORUM:

This weekend, the Prizefighters are going to begin recording their first official release at Shock and Audio Studio with Andrew Zoellner and General Moses (former host of Rude Radio). We plan on tracking 10 songs or so, with the eventual release of a CD and possibly a 7″.

This has been a long time coming for us, so we’re all very excited to get the best of our work over the past several years onto tape. We will try to provide updates as we wrap up the recording/mixing and get closer to releasing the new material.

Thanks to everyone for their support over the years that helped us get to this point!

You can check out The Prizefighters on Saturday, February 20th at Eclipse Records in St. Paul for the big Birthday Show for Adam Degross of Degross Punk Photography.

SHSK will not be playing

MN Ska 5-year anniversary! *note: SHSK will not be playing

In July of 2008, mnska.com turned 5 years old, so we are celebrating in better-late-than-never style on Sunday December 7th with a big local ska show!  Check out 5 great local bands at Eclipse Records (1922 University Ave. St. Paul) from 3pm – 9pm, and don’t forget to bring a food donation (non-perishable or fresh produce) for a dollar off admission.  This show is benefitting Sister’s Camelot, who will use the food and proceeds from the concert to feed hungry people this month.  MN Ska has always been about building community, so help support this great community organization while enjoying the best in local ska from Small Kitchen Appliances, The Prizefighters, Airwave Bandits, Hardcore Crayons, and Sans Pants!

More info on the Forum- Happy 5th Birthday, MN Ska!!!
