Video: Deal’s Gone Bad “Perfect Combination”

Chicago soul-reggae group Deal’s Gone Bad recently spent the weekend playing all over the Midwest.  Here is the band playing new song “Perfect Combination” at the Bay View Brew Haus in Milwaukee, WI.  The band just released a new 7-inch “Far From Home/These Arms Of Mine” and are working on a full-length follow up to 2007′s The Ramblers.

MNSKA heavy-hitters The Prizefighters had a busy weekend that involved several shows with Chicago’s Deal’s Gone Bad and Milwaukee’s Something To Do.  Last Friday, the band played in Milwaukee at the Bay View Brew Haus and debuted a brand new version of their song “Take Some Time.”  As you can tell from the video, this is a horn-driven instrumental version and it will appear on the vinyl release of Follow My Sound, coming out in a couple months on Jump Up Records.

It’s a Midwest ska fest!  Chicago’s veteran reggae-soul band Deal’s Gone Bad is returning to Minneapolis on Saturday, May 14th.  The 18+ show will take place at the Triple Rock Social Club and will feature Wisconsin pop-ska group Something To Do and MNSKA traditional-ska rockers The Prizefighters.  Doors open at 9 pm.

Deal’s Gone Bad post music video for “Far From Home”

Chicago’s long-running reggae-soul band Deal’s Gone Bad have just posted a brand new music video!  The video is for their new song “Far From Home” which will be released this month as a 45.  The whole thing was shot at the Innertown Pub in Chicago and was directed and produced by Little Cabin Films.  As you can tell, “Far From Home” is a hot little soul-stomper and features an epic Charlie Daniels-style pool match of good vs. evil.

Here’s a video shot from this past weekend at Mayne Stage in Chicago featuring The Crombies, a new music project from Mike Park and various members of Deal’s Gone Bad.  In the video, the band is performing a 2 Tone version of the classic Niney The Observer song “Blood & Fire.”

As Mother Nature blows a nightmarish blizzard across the Midwest, we at the Flyover Ska Show recommend putting on wool socks, throw another log on the fire, and curl up with our latest episode.  This week, Anthony Abbinanti of Chicago bands The Drastics and Deal’s Gone Bad calls in to give us an update on his latest reggae-dub creations.  Anthony also shares stories of how The Drastics first gathered, his theories on the recent resurgence of instrumental music, and the apparent voodoo-gypsy like curse he and his bandmates seem to be under.  There is a lot of great music to look forward to in the coming year, courtesy of Anthony and The Drastics.

Indiana soul-reggae band Green Room Rockers recently released the CD version of their new self-titled full-length album.  Exclusively on that version of the album is the soul classic “Bring It On Home,” featuring guest vocals from Todd Hembrook from Deal’s Gone Bad and JC Brooks from the Uptown Sound.  The band is releasing the vinyl version of the album this month through Jump Up Records.

New Green Room Rockers album drops this weekend

Indiana’s hottest soul-reggae band Green Room Rockers are pleased to announce the release of their self-titled LP, the second full-length from the band.  The album, which was produced by Dave Hillyard (The Slackers, Dave Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7), features 14 tracks with guest appearances by Deal’s Gone Bad vocalist Todd Hembrook, Lafayette singer Maegan Hale and Chicago soul singer J.C. Brooks, who performs the band’s Sam Cooke cover “Bring It on Home.”  The album is out this weekend on Jump Up Records.
