Big D drummer departs while making new record

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

According to the site Dream Not Of Today, Boston ska band Big D and the Kids Table‘s drummer Jon Reilly left the band in the middle of writing their recently released album Fluent In Stroll.  The band’s Sean Rogan explained:

Our old drummer decided to leave the band in the very middle of writing Fluent in Stroll.  We were demoing songs and rehearsing five days a week and he just decided it wasn’t for him anymore.

The band’s frontman David McWane played drums on the album.  Taking over drumming duties for their dates on the Vans Warped Tour is Derek Davis, who had to quickly learn over 20 songs.

Big D and the Kids Table “Chin Up, Boy”

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Boston ska-punks Big D and the Kids Table have posted the song “Chin Up, Boy” from their upcoming release Fluent In Stroll on their Myspace page.  There has been some heated and lengthy debates on the MNSka Forum about the album sparked from recent songs posted by the band.  (Head over to the forum and weigh in!)  Rest assured, this song is more along the lines of a laid-back ska song.

Fluent In Stroll will be released on July 7, 2009 on SideOneDummy Records.

Ska bands already confirmed for Warped 2009

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

I know it seems like next summer is a lifetime away, especially since we just got a half-foot of snow the other day, but there is already some news regarding Vans Warped Tour 2009.  Tom Rowles of NotMTV caught up with Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman and got him to leak some information regarding the tour.  Notable ska bands have already been confirmed, including Big D and the Kids Table and Westbound Train.  Other artists Lyman unveiled were Anti-Flag, Bouncing Souls, Chiodos, Flogging Molly, Lights, NOFX, POS, Shooter Jennings, TAT, The Devil Wears Prada, and Underoath.

Lyman also discussed the changes to expect from the 2009 tour.  Plans include to condense the number of stages and having only 1 main stage.  Set times, which were traditionally 30 minutes, will be extended to 40 minutes.  I have always thought that the Warped Tour sets were too short for the bands that I like and this might give them an opportunity to play some new material.

You can check out the Kevin Lyman interview video after the jump.
