Boston’s own traditional ska group The Void Union has released their brand new album Higher Ground today!  The album features a TON of guests, including King Django, Obi Fernandez (Westbound Train), Angelo Moore (Fishbone), Craig Akira Fujita (Pressure Cooker), Steve Borth (Link 80, Rx Bandits, Satori), Josh Cohen (Westbound Train), Johnny DeCarlo (Westbound Train), and Dave Hillyard (The Slackers). Along with an assortment of other engineering credits, its evident that this album was a collaborative effort amongst some of the most notable names in the modern American ska scene!

The Void Union are a group formed of several members of Westbound Train that play an assortment of Jamaican music styles.  This album is a follow-up to their 2008 self-titled album.

Recently formed LA ska band HaSkaLA played a series of Vans Warped Tour dates on the “Ska Parade Stage” in Southern California this month as part of the 20th Anniversary of Ska Parade.  Each band performs 1-2 songs of historical importance to the development of ska and HaSkaLA decided to go with the classic Fishbone tune “Party At Ground Zero.”  To help them out, the band invited Fishbone’s Angelo Moore, along with members of Monkey, Mustard Plug, Knock-Out, Tazy Phyllipz of Ska Parade Radio and more!   Big ups to Don Adams for directing this video.

Louisiana reggae-rock band Outlaw Nation is returning to the Twin Cities for the Out On Bail 2010 Tour!  A couple months ago, this band came to town on tour with Fishbone and The English Beat at The Cabooze in Minneapolis, MN.  This time, they are headlining an 18+ show at the 400 Bar in Minneapolis TOMORROW NIGHT! Doors open at 8 pm for this Tuesday night show.

Our friends over at Citypages have posted a slideshow of photos taken by Steve Cohen at last Thursday’s show featuring The English Beat, Fishbone, and Outlaw Nation at The Cabooze in Minneapolis, MN.  A packed house cheered on the bands with sweaty fervor, a real highlight coming at the English Beat’s “Mirror In The Bathroom” encore with Angelo Moore from Fishbone on sax.

Seems like there’s a lot Fishbone news lately!  According to our friends over at Punknews.org, the band is currently the subject of a lawsuit for allegedly injuring a fan when lead vocalist Angelo Moore jumped into the crowd on February 23rd during a concert in Philadelphia. Forty-two-year-old Kimberly Myers, of Voorhees, NJ, claims a fractured skull, a broken collar bone and perforated eardrum when Moore jumped into the crowd The lawsuit is seeking damages in excess of $75,000.  You can read the entire news report HERE.
