Video: Less Than Jake at Fest 8

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

These videos are coming to you courtesy of Alternative Press.  Gainesville, FL was packed last weekend as Fest 8 rolled through with hurricane-like strength.  Veteran ska-punkers Less Than Jake had home field advantage and played a set on Halloween night.  The above video shows the band playing the fan-favorite “Scott Farcas Takes It On The Chin” from their Hello Rockview album as well as them wishing bassist Roger a most happy birthday.

A reminder that the MNSKA.COM Less Than Jake contest is running through November 18th, so email your LTJ stories to mnskanews@gmail.com for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see them live at Station 4 in St. Paul, MN on November 25th!

Check out another LTJ Fest 8 video after the jump of them playing the song “Conviction Notice” from their latest album GNV FLA.

Interviews: Streetlight Manifesto

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Tomas Kalnoky of Streetlight Manifesto sat down with Jason Pettigrew from Alternative Press for an exclusive interview and acoustic set.  In a lengthy (45 minutes) interview, Kalnoky shares his opinions on how ska may be dead, emo could be good, and his ill feelings about being on Victory Records.  Interspersed in between are acoustic renditions of Streetlight Manifesto anthems, like “Somewhere In The Between,” “Forty Days” and “Dear Sergio.”

Check out the interview here.

Interviews: Matt Embree and Steve Choi (Rx Bandits)

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Although Alternative Press is a little bit slanted towards emo bands, their AP Show recently featured the Rx Bandits.  Matt Embree (vocals, guitar) and Steve Choi (guitar, keyboards) sit down with AP’s Rob Ortenzi for an exclusive interview and play a small acoustic set.  Check it out here. You may remember Steve Choi from the ska-punk Mike Park group The Chinkees (Asian Man Records).

Rx Bandits are a band that started off as a typical third-wave ska band back in 2000, but have since taken their sound to new levels.  There are distinct rhythms and elements of their sound that has roots in ska and reggae.

Rx Bandits released …And The Battle Begun on October 10, 2006 on MDB Records.
